The Rules of Love Letter

Love Letter is a strict card game of bluffing, deduction, luck and player elimination. Each player is a suitor trying to court the lovely Princess Annette who locked herself in her palace. The goal of the game is to write a love letter and to get it delivered first to her.

The Setup

The Cards

There exists 16 cards in the deck, consisting of 8 unique player cards.

There are:

Each player card has a rank in the top left corner, and the player with the highest rank wins the game if there are no more cards to play.

Game Play

On your turn, draw the top card from the deck and add it to your hand. Then choose one of the two cards in your hand and discard it face up in front of you. Apply any effect on the card you discarded. You must apply its effect, even if it is bad for you.

If a player is knocked out of the round, that player discards the card in his or her hand face up (do not apply the card's effect) and takes no more turns until next round.

A round ends when either there is only one player remaining, or the deck is empty. If there are no more cards, the player with the highest ranked card wins.
